My computer is sick.

anniescupboards Reply 3:00 PM
I am unable to get my computer going this morning. It just didn't want to wake up. It's telling me the keyboard is missing. Yet its there. The green light is even glowing. (eyeroll) So we have to wait till later in the evening when darling hubby gets home and he can nurse her back to health. Cause I am no good at computers and kicking it didn't seem to work or help matters. Until further notice I am unable to check my emails. I am totally bound to my notebook. How so boring.

Hopefully I will have an update soon. And a GOOD happy one. Not a kicking on the floor screaming one.

Today is the anniversary of the day Martin Luther King gave his speech. How far have we come since August 28, 1968? We shall over come.

2008 Woodstock 28th Annual Arts and Crafts Festival

anniescupboards Reply 8:44 AM
2008 Woodstock 28th Annual Arts and Crafts Festival will be December 6th - 7th 2008. Saturday's hours are 9am-5pm and Sunday 9am-4pm. Welleby Park,11100 N.W. 44 St.Sunrise, Florida (yes in the same city as me, and right down the street)Admission is $5. However if you bring in 6 cans of food you will get in for free. I want to attend this show and be a vendor. I am not sure tho. This is the most expensive show to have a booth. I am a bit nervous of taking the plunge and spending the money. I have heard nothing but good things about this show. It pulls in many people. Its very well known around here. I shop this craft show every year. I never see "my crafts" there. So its really making me wanna go. There is a bonus tho for signing up. Once your in the show as a vendor, you have a few contests you could win. The prize? CASH and lots of it. More than what the booth price costs. They have contests for the Best Craft, Best booth, best display. Now when I think contest. I get excited. I love to enter contests. I have a themed booth already planned in my head. Yet I have not even sent in the application. Oh my my. To sign up or not. Maybe then I will be tired of craft shows? Naaaaaaa!

72nd annual Orange Blossum Festival

anniescupboards 2 8:31 AM
I found another local craft show. 72nd annual Orange blossom Festival in Davie Florida. Feb. 28- March 1, 2009. This is a two day show. This show will be its 72nd year. WOW. How come I am just now finding out about this festival? I am thinking about signing up to be a vendor. There is a bunch going on at this festival. There will be a parade. Variety of Bands playing. A RODEO. (I haven't been to one since I was 11) There are going to have farmers selling their organic foods. FINE arts. Local Crafters. Plus there is gourmet foods and I think there is a LADIES COOK OFF going on. Hay rides, Lots of animals, pony rides, petting zoo. There will be an antique stage coach and wagon display. They are even having a contest for the best dressed parade float. There is no "country life" in South Florida. However Davie is. Its a small city that is packed full of acres of land and those who seek the country lifestyle, but live in a busy city. (oh did I tell you I would love to live there?)

Boxy Bag Style #2

anniescupboards 4 7:09 PM

I made this bag today. And then quickly decided to go a step further. I think its very cute having a flat bag.

Then again a boxy bag is cute too. I just sewed a few corners. Which one do you like best?

Just sewing away here.

anniescupboards 2 7:48 PM
I have been sewing away. I have made a few headbands yesterday. Today I am working on some bags and dolls. I am going to be working on those all week.

I have been busy homeschooling my youngest. The start of a new school year. So much refreshing and so much new to teach. I need to get over to the library tomorrow to pick out a nice reading book for him. I also would like to plan a field trip for history. I am going to teach him about the Seminole Indians. I should get a book on them as well. Have your kids started school yet? This is my first year not having to go shopping for clothing and school supplies and the yadaa yadaa that goes with it all. My oldest has graduated. I pulled my son out during the middle of last year. So he was home schooled half of last year. My morning routine is totally different. I am trying to get used to everything. Oh its makes for a fun full day! I sure don't miss sitting outside with 6 kids in my car waiting for the school bus to arrive. And its funny how home school work is done in the same amount of time public school home work was done in. I really feel he is connecting and learning. He is grasping but needs lots of work. So a busy year for Mrs. Sherry.

Anniescupboards Free Fabric Headband Tutorial Pattern

Anniescupboards Headband

Supplies needed:

Half a yard of any fabric you like.
Rick Rack
Thread

Tools Needed:

Sewing machine
Iron (heavy steam setting)

This headband does not take too much time to make and you can make several different ones to match outfits in one afternoon.

First you will need to cut out 2 fabric strips measuring 3 ½” tall and the entire width of your fabric. That will give you two nice long strips.

I then iron them to get all the creases out and lay them out flat on my ironing board.

I want to sew these two fabric strips together with the fabric showing on the top and bottom. But I want to do it neat and clean. To achieve this look you will need to take one of the long strips of fabric and fold it over a bit. I then make sure my iron is ready to use. I have it set to a high steam setting so it will give me a nice crease line and hold my fabric in place. Just iron all the way down the fabric strip.

When your ironing the second fabric strip, just use your first one as a guide to how wide they should be. (note you can always fix later if some tends to stick out more than it should)

Place both fabric pieces together.

You are going to want to leave a space for the first 1 ½ inches on the strip so Do not sew leave it open. This will be tucked in and sewn in a later step.

Just sew the left side together. Don’t sew the right side together just yet. After you have sewn one side of the two strips together, go back to your ironing station. Check your strips to see if they are even. If they are not then you can adjust and then re-iron the areas that need fixing. After you made the adjustments you can sew the other side together. Remember leaving the space of 1 ½” of space.

The next step is to fold the ends in and then iron them and then sew them closed. The ironing will make them square off neatly.

I then cut out 2 pieces of fabric that is 12 wide” x 4 tall”.

This will be the headband cozy. I will fold them and iron them to form creases, like I did with the long strips.

Match them up and make sure they are even with each other.
Then take each side of the ends and fold over and iron. I then sew all the ends and clip off the extras.

Make sure when your making this you take the long strip and see if it fits into the cozy before sewing. You don’t want it too tight that it won’t fit or that it’s snug and pulling.

Take your rick rack. Place it between the two pieces of fabric.

You will need to make sure its sticking out some but not to much. Then sew all three pieces together. This will sew your rick rack in and also sew the headband cozy half closed. You will then need to sew the other side of the cozy. I like to reinforce my sewing seams on each of the four sides just to ensure my rick rack and seams won’t fall out. Remember don’t sew the cozy closed. You need to slip this on to the long fabric strip.

On a side creative note. You can easily make this part from linen or muslin and hand stitch a name and or a design of your choice. It will make it more personal for gift giving.

Ok your almost done.

Next you will need to take a safety pin and pin on the long strip. Feed it thru your cozy till you get the cozy worked to the middle of your long fabric strip. I then pass the iron over it more time.

And that’s it! Your finished.
Feel free to make these to sell on your websites, auction sites or craftshows. Just remember to tell them its from an Anniescupboards pattern. XOXO

Wood Pull Toys & Chests

anniescupboards Reply 8:16 PM

I went to Michaels craft store over the weekend. I went in there cause its next door to one of hubby's favorite places, an electronic store. (Icky) I don't like going in there with him. We walk in holding hands and he quickly ditches me and runs all over the store. I can never keep up. He spends lots of time looking at boring things such as wires and cables and the latest and greatest whatever. I try to talk to him and nothing is heard. He is just off in his own world. Kinda reminds me of a kid a recess. Or me at the fabric store. (GASP!)

I purchased these all for under $9.00 Seems like an ok deal right? Well I purchased 5 of the wood trunks. Not just one. Oh yeah! They were 90% off. I am going to make a few different ones and see if they are a craft show seller. I adore the birds that are on each of the hardware pieces. Plus this is very nice and deep. Perfect for hiding/storing lots of goodies.

Oh someone little is getting a surprise!

I am late on this gift giving. When she gets her gifts I will post better photos.

Democrat Fabric

anniescupboards 1 1:14 PM
I said I was not going to get political in my craft show or just in general crafting. I am really not the political type. However, I broke my rule to purchase this fabric. Now an election only comes every four years for President. I of course had to purchase the Democratic fabric. And only the Democrat fabric. I had to purchase another strawberry shortcake. Just a yard. I want to keep that one for a while and hide it in my favorite stash pile. hehe. Did ya see the Care Bears? Love them!

I am going to have a 10x10 Tent. Hubby will have to come help me set up and take down the show in case anything is too heavy for me. He has no idea that he is tho. hehe Maybe someone should tell him? (giggle) The show is so close to my house. It was a 10 min drive, I tested it today when I went to turn in my funds for the booth. This show is two weeks after my first craft show. There is no turning back now. Oh my my my. I am off to make even more goodies. Oh my!

Oh my. Looky what just came in the mail. My son went to take the trash out and brought me a little gift back. How sweet is that? haha! My friend Tammy (from ROCK RIVER STITCHES) had my name in the fabric fat quarter swap we did on swap-bot. Oh my she sent WAY to many goodies. I adore everything she sent me. She spoiled me too much. Oh my! Looky at the toys. MY favorite. They are so hard to find. Does she know this? Does she know how hard I look all the time and I never get to find something yummy as a meat grinder and an egg beater? Did she know I was looking for one? I tried getting one a few times on Ebay only to be outbid. MORE than once. Oh my STARS! I am so ever THANKFUL! Each item is a treasure. I am so loving the vintage rick rack and vintage binding.
